Research: Disability Provision from Suffolk Leisure Service Providers

The client:

Suffolk County Council

The brief:

To conduct research into the disability provision from Suffolk leisure service providers

The work:

Linked to the release of a Disability Strategy for Sport in Suffolk, the County Council were keen to work with Suffolk leisure service providers to assist them in identifying key actions that could further enhance their disability provision.  Bavester Associates was contracted to undertake a short research project to review the existing disability provision across seven leisure providers in the county and provide recommendations as to how this could be improved to support the overall strategy delivery. Katie designed and implemented an extensive questionnaire to gather initial evidence to support subsequent follow up interviews with senior representatives of the leisure providers.

The outcome:

The work resulted in a number of recommendations relating to information provision and accessibility, marketing and promotion, pricing policy, activity delivery and engagement with disabled communities and representative groups.  Opportunities for greater consistency between providers and collaborative approaches that could be adopted were also provided.  Suffolk County Council intended to use the report to work more closely with leisure providers to support them to make changes to their provision.
