Project Management and Delivery: Moreton Hall Run Walk Route

The Client: Abbeycroft Leisure Limited

The Brief: To project manage the installation of a Run Walk Route in the Moreton Hall ward of Bury St Edmunds.

The Work: Katie worked on behalf of Abbeycroft Leisure to consult with local Councillors and community leaders on the installation of a 5km signposted run walk route using existing lit pathways in the Moreton Hall ward.  Building on an existing route proposal developed to secure public health funding for the initiative by Abbeycroft Leisure, Katie enhanced the project further by securing additional locality funding for activation elements including a launch event and promotional activity.  Suffolk Sport, the local County Sports Partnership, also committed funding to deliver two six week ‘couch to 5K’ beginner running courses with qualified coaches.  Katie also drew upon available Abbeycroft Leisure staff capacity to run four social walk sessions post route launch.  Katie worked with West Suffolk Council to achieve the actual route signage installation.

The Outcome: Successful installation of the route including a well-supported launch event with over 50 local residents and VIPs and media attending to undertake an inaugural run/walk.  Attendance of over 60 participants from the target groups of women and retired individuals on the social walk and beginner running sessions with links to appropriate exit routes such as parkrun and local Athletic groups made.
